The Islamic Teachings - Simple and Straightforward

Teachings of Islam explained in simple and concise manner.

Treat Your Parents Kindly

Treat your parents kindly and behave with them in a nice and comely manner[1].  Spend out of your wealth for the welfare and wellbeing of your parents[2]. Make a bequest for them from your wealth, in case you may die earlier[3].  Pray for their protection in this world and the hereafter[4]. Also pray for them Allah’s beneficence[5].  Do not say to them Uff (i.e. any word of disrespect, dislike, contempt or disgust), especially when they become old[6]. Do not repel or reproach them, especially when they become old[7]. Never shout at them but address them in terms of honour and speak to them in a respectful manner, especially when they become old[8]. Lower to them the wings of humility out of compassion[9]. Be dutiful, gentle and kind to them and do not be arrogant or rebellious[10]. However, do not obey them if they attempt to make you associate partners with Allah[11]. Be grateful to them for the contributions they have made in your life[12]. Give them company in the worldly affairs with appropriate courtesy and kindness[13]. However, you should not take side of your parents if they do any wrong and you should stand out firmly for justice even though it be against your parents[14].
